Saint-Gobain sales down 1.3 percent

Saint-Gobain reported sales of €39 billion ($41 billion) in 2016, a 1.3 percent decrease from €39.6 billion in 2015.


On a like-for-like basis, sales were up 2.6%, driven by volume growth in all of business bectors and regions, the company said. 

Innovative Materials sales climbed 4.5% like-for-like over the year, in line with the first half. Construction Products reported 1.4% organic growth, including 1.1% in the second half. Building Distribution reported 2.7% organic sales growth for the year, with 2.2% in the second half, slightly up on the first half based on a comparable number of working days.

North America reported 2.0% like-for-like sales growth, buoyed by volumes in both Exterior Products and Interior Solutions, mainly in the first half. Industrial markets were down slightly. Prices continued to have a negative impact, although this eased in the second half. The operating margin rose to 10.5% from 9.1% in 2015, driven mainly by volumes.
