Industry veteran Chartier remembered

Allan Chartier, former president and chief executive officer of Midwest Industrial Tools in Omaha, Neb., passed away on March 21 following a lengthy illness.


Allan ChartierHe was 67 years old. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynda, three children, Darin, Jennifer and Evan, his mother, Dollie M. Chartier of Sioux City, Iowa, and 10 grandchildren.

Chartier began his career in the industrial distribution industry as a sales engineer for Midwest Industrial Tools in 1974. He received multiple promotions throughout his career and eventually purchased the company. He held positions on many executive boards and industry committees, including serving as president of the Industrial Distribution Association (1993-1994), the Central States Industrial Distribution Association (1988), and the American Machine Tool Distributors Association (1998-1999). He was the only industry professional to serve as president of I.D.A., CSIDA and AMTDA. He was also chairman of the ISD network of Affiliated Distributors (1995-1997), and chairman of the ISA Education Foundation board of trustees (2011-2012). He also served on numerous supplier advisory boards and councils and was active in his local community.

A strong supporter of education, he served on the University of Nebraska-Omaha College of Engineering - Industrial Advisory Committee, Bellevue University - President’s Entrepreneurial Advisory Council and the University of Alabama-Birmingham Industrial Distribution Steering Committee.

“Allan was an accomplished businessman, a loving father and husband, a philanthropist and a gentleman of the highest degree. His integrity was an inspiration to all that knew him, as was his willingness to serve in the community,” said Bill Henricks, chief operating officer of DGI Supply, which acquired Midwest Industrial Tools in 2011. “Because of his impact, he leaves his company and our industry stronger than when he joined them. We did not lose Allan Chartier; we know exactly where he is and the heavens are the brighter for it.”
