Construction spending edged down in March

Construction spending during March 2019 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1,282.2 billion, 0.9 percent below the revised February estimate of $1,293.3 billion.


The March figure is 0.8 percent below the March 2018 estimate of $1,293.1 billion.

Spending on private construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $961.5 billion, 0.7 percent below February. Residential construction was down 1.8 percent. Nonresidential construction rose by 0.5 percent.

Public construction spending was $320.7 billion in March, 1.3 percent below the revised February estimate of $324.7 billion. Educational construction fell by 1.5 percent, while highway construction fell by 1.5 percent from February.
