Durable goods orders rise
New orders for manufactured durable goods in July increased $9.4 billion or 4.2 percent to $230.7 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced.
However, excluding transportation, new orders decreased 0.4 percent. This is the fourth decline in five months.
The overall increase, up three consecutive months, followed a 1.6 percent June increase.
Transportation equipment, up five of the last six months, had the largest increase, $9.9 billion or 14.1 percent to $80.4 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods in July, up seven of the last eight months, increased $5.9 billion or 2.6 percent to $231.1 billion. This was at the highest level since the series was first
