Manufactured goods orders up 1.9 percent in July

New orders for manufactured goods increased 1.9 percent to $454.8 billion in July, according to the U.S.Census Bureau.


This followed a 1.8 percent June decrease.

Shipments, down following four consecutive monthly increases, decreased 0.2 percent to $458.9 billion. This followed a 0.6 percent June increase.

Manufactured durable goods orders increased 4.4 percent to $228.6 billion for the month. This followed a 4.3 percent June decrease.

Transportation equipment, also up following two consecutive monthly decreases, led the increase, climbing 10.6 percent to $78.9 billion.

New orders for manufactured nondurable goods decreased 0.5 percent to $226.1 billion.
