Monk Mining Supply becomes Phoenix Conveyor Belt Solutions

Monk Mining Supply Inc., a Tazewell, Virginia-based distributor of conveyor belt products, has become Phoenix Conveyor Belt Solutions Inc.

“The only thing about our business that changes is the name,” said Ron Gibson, general manager. For the last eight years, Monk has operated as a subsidiary of Veyance Technologies Inc., a company that was added to Phoenix Conveyor Belt Solutions in 2015. “We will continue to operate as a unit of our supplier and remain just as autonomous in our business as prior to the name change.”

There will be no change in personnel at the Tazewell distributor.

Phoenix Conveyor Belt Systems, GmbH, is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, and has offered conveyor belting products and solutions on an international basis for more than 150 years. The acquisition of Monk Mining Supply, in 2008, enabled it to offer a greater breadth of products, a larger global footprint and the latest in extreme conveyor belt solutions.

“The name change now enables us to speak, write, brand, market and distribute our products with unanimity and consistency,” said Bret Hall, head of Phoenix and NBS Service-NAFTA. “It also helps us more closely align the distributed products under one name. Everything else within the (former Monk) organization will remain the same – from purchase orders to all other financial and business-related activities.

“Phoenix-branded conveyor belting has been very popular in Europe and the rest of the world with the exception of North America,” said Hall. “Monk Mining has helped us to improve our presence and we want to certainly assure our customers, vendors, suppliers, etc., that we are retaining that same focus – now under one name.”

Hall added that the Phoenix brand would be served by a NAFTA-centric group of distributors (including the former Monk Mining) located in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America.
