United Stationers sales relatively flat
United Stationers said its third quarter 2012 net sales were $1.28 billion, compared to the $1.3 billion reported in the prior-year quarter.
Net income was $36.8 million in 2012, compared with $35.8 million in the year-ago quarter.
"We continued to drive organic growth in industrial and janitorial & breakroom and from our online and public sector initiatives while supporting our core independent and national accounts customers as they reposition themselves in a rapidly evolving marketplace," said Cody Phipps, president and chief executive officer. He added that the acquisition of O.K.I. Supply announced yesterday extends the company's industrial platform in several "highly complementary categories and creates compelling growth opportunities and operating efficiencies."
Sales in the first nine months of 2012 were $3.8 billion, up 1.4%, after adjusting for one less selling day in 2012, driven in large part by a 13.4% gain in industrial supplies.
