Manufacturing expanded in November

Manufacturing expanded in November, as the ISM purchasing manager's index registered 59.3 percent, an increase of 1.6 percentage points from the October reading of 57.7 percent.

“This indicates growth in manufacturing for the 27th consecutive month, led by strong new orders, production output and continued slowing supplier delivery performance,” said Timothy R. Fiore, chair of the Institute for Supply Management Manufacturing Business Survey Committee. A reading above 50 percent indicates that the manufacturing economy is generally expanding; below 50 percent indicates that it is generally contracting.

The New Orders Index registered 62.1 percent, an increase of 4.7 percentage points from the October reading of 57.4 percent. The Production Index registered 60.6 percent, a 0.7 percentage-point increase compared to the October reading of 59.9 percent.
