Housing starts hit four-year high
Housing starts rose by 3.6 precent in October to their highest rate in more than four years.
The Commerce Department said housing starts were at a seasonally adjusted rate of 894,000 units.
Single-family housing starts were at a rate of 594,000; this is 0.2 percent below the revised September figure of 595,000. The October rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 285,000.
Building permits fell by 2.7 percent in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 866,000, but are 29.8 percent above the October 2011 estimate of 667,000.
