AD wins HR award

AD, the $31 billion contractor and industrial products wholesale buying/marketing group, was named 2015’s “HR Department of the Year” in the Greater Philadelphia area by the HR Department of the Year Awards.

The HR Department of the Year Awards, now in its 18th year, recognizes companies with HR departments of varying sizes that have demonstrated overall service excellence and impacted the success of their organizations. Past winners with larger HR organizations include, Lincoln Financial Group, SAP America and Vanguard Group.

“There are many companies our size that don’t have an HR department and I understand their concern about ROI. But the decision we made to invest in HR has demonstrated tangible results. It has improved the quality of the talent we attract and the speed at which we fill positions. It has improved retention, engagement and the development of our associates. We’ve seen a clear and tangible return on this investment,” said Bill Weisberg, AD chairman and CEO.

David White, president of Shealy Electrical and a member of the AD board of directors, said AD plans to leverage this investment to the benefit of its 570 members across seven industries and three countries that collectively have over 55,000 employees. “Human capital is a key area where distributors need to invest in order to stay relevant in this industry. AD’s new program, AD HR Services, provides a suite of HR-related services including best in class, innovative and cost-effective HR service providers," White said.

Tim Arenberg, president of Columbia Pipe & Supply and chairman of the AD board’s Compensation & Organizational Development Committee, said that Neil Cohen, AD’s VP of HR and Organizational Development, has an impressive HR resume and has worked for some very progressive companies. "He's combined that experience with his passion for people and helping businesses succeed to build a great program offering for AD members,” Arenberg said.

“I truly believe that investing in and supporting a strong HR function can significantly impact business results. I am delighted that AD has received this great honor and I’m passionate about helping our members build their businesses through our new AD HR Services program,” said Cohen.
