Madison Chemical introduces water-based rust preventative

Madison Chemical introduces Compound RP-111, a water-based rust preventative for ferrous and copper metals.

Madison Chemical's Compound RP-111This nearly invisible, dry-to-the-touch film provides short term (up to four weeks) indoor storage protection for previously cleaned parts. With no oil or solvents, this water-based product yields lower use costs. It does not contain nitrite, silicate, phosphate, hydroxide, chlorine, phenol, or sulfur, and it may be used prior to heat treating operations.

The product is typically applied at 2% to 10% by volume in water, with concentrations up to 15% by volume in water for longer rust protection time. It can be used from 70°F to 160°F as required for dry off and handling purposes. Heating the solution will shorten drying time and may improve overall protection results. Optimum concentration should be determined by lab or plant testing and is dependent on temperature, humidity, and desired storage time. Compound RP-111 is safe for ferrous and copper alloys when used as directed, making it ideal for manufacturing plants of all types and sizes.

Treated parts should not be stacked or nested together until they are dry. Methods to speed drying process which reduce film thickness (and subsequently the rust protection provided) such as high velocity/high pressure compressed air or centrifugal spinning should not be used unless testing has proven satisfactory results.
