Two nutrunner clamps for 5-axis machining

Fixtureworks, a North American manufacturer and supplier of clamps, fixturing accessories, machine tool components and rollers and bumpers, now offers two versions of mechanical nutrunner pull clamps, both alternatives to hydraulic clamps.

Fixtureworks nutrunner pull clampsThey are block pull with separate clamping screws identified as PTPD and the hex head with an integrated clamping screw locking identified as PTPD1. Hex head operation on both types makes them ideal for use with a nutrunner on automated productions.

Block pull clamps (PTPD) provide very quick and secure fastening and are ideal for 5 axis machining. They consist of a clamp base used with a separate clamping screw (PTPD-M) that is mounted onto a workpiece. Block pull clamps mount under a workpiece, which allows the surface that will be machined to be accessible to the cutting tool. In addition to tightening with a wrench, this clamp can be operated with nutrunner for automation and impact wrench for lower workloads. The PTPD clamp is 95 mm in length. PTPD-M clamping screws, offered in three thread sizes, mount directly to the workpiece and lock into the clamp unit. PTPD block pull clamps provide repeatability of ±0.3 and clamping force of 2700 lb. The body is made from 1045 steel with a black oxide finish.

PTPD1 pull down clamps also provide quick and secure fastening and are also ideal for 5-axis machining and workpiece machining on horizontal machining centers. With this version the clamping screw is integrated in the clamp so there is no need for separate clamping screws. When a workpiece is loaded onto the clamp and positioned, the clamping screw, integrated in the clamp body, fits by spring pressure into the tapped hole in the workpiece. Turning the hex head located on the side of the clamp rotates the screw and pulls down the workpiece. The hex head can be turned manually or operated with an impact wrench and is ideal for use with a nutrunner on automated production lines. PTPD1 pull lock clamps are available with a diameter of 125 mm with up to 3,372 lb. of clamping force. The clamping screw compressed in the clamp body are available in two sizes –M12 x 1.75 of M16 x 2.00 mm threads. The body is made from 1045 steel with a black oxide finish.

Unlike hydraulic solutions, Fixtureworks nutrunner clamps provide mechanical clamping without the need for hydraulic piping. This simplifies fixture design and maintenance, shortens preparation time, and lowers costs. They can provide rigid and easy mounting to the plate and provide no tool interference for top surface machining.

In addition to nutrunner clamps, Fixtureworks offers quick change pneumatic clamping fasteners, quick action sliding locks spring plunger clamps, handle and levers, knobs and grips, equipment handles, hand wheels and cranks, hinges and latches, leveling supports, industrial rubber bumpers, stops and wheels, fixture clamps, clamping locating systems, work positioning elements, vises, grippers and mechanical linear actuators.
