Manufactured goods orders down 2.4 percent in November

New orders for manufactured goods decreased 2.4 percent in November to $458.3 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today.


This followed a 2.8 percent October increase. Orders had increased for four consecutive months prior to the November decline.

New orders for manufactured durable goods decreased 4.5 percent to $228.8 billion. This followed a 5.0 percent October increase.

Transportation equipment drove the decrease, as orders fell 13.2 percent to $76.7 billion.

New orders for manufactured nondurable goods decreased 0.2 percent to $229.6 billion.

Shipments, down following three consecutive monthly increases, decreased 0.1 percent to $463.8 billion. This followed a 0.2 percent October increase.
