Intertape Polymer receives EPA recognition

Intertape Polymer Group was designated as a 2014 Energy Star Partner of the Year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The designation recognizes IPG for strategically managing and improving the energy efficiency in its operating locations.

“We are honored to be recognized by the EPA as an Energy Star Partner of the Year,” said Greg Yull, CEO and president, IPG. “I am very proud of our employees for making energy efficiency and sustainability a top priority. By partnering with Energy Star, we were able to save money and protect the environment through employee engagement across the company.”

Key accomplishments of IPG’s award winning energy management program include:

  • Reducing absolute energy use by nearly three percent over 2012. IPG’s energy program has reduced energy intensity by 22 percent and saved the company nearly $2 million on energy costs since launching in 2009.
  • Meeting EPA’s Energy Star Challenge for Industry for several of its plants, with an average energy intensity reduction of 19 percent. The reductions have cut CO2 emissions at IPG’s plants by 26,000 metric tons in two years.
  • Helping EPA partners with a local utility to pilot a training approach that will help small and medium-sized manufacturers establish effective energy management programs.
  • Establishing a community energy manager network at one plant location to advance energy efficiency and promote Energy Star tools and resources.
  • Promoting Energy Star tools and resources actively to local business, organizations, employees, and other stakeholders through presentations and other communication activities.

The 2014 Partner of the Year Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through superior energy efficiency. The award winners are selected from the 16,000 partners that participate in the Energy Star program.
