Mixed jobs report in May

The construction industry gained 7,000 jobs during May but manufacturing employment fell by 8,000 jobs during the month.


Most of the loss in manufacturing jobs was in nondurable goods, which dropped 6,000 jobs, while durable goods manufacturing employment fell by 2,000.

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 175,000 in May, and the unemployment rate ticked up to 7.6 percent from 7.5 percent in April, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
