Economic growth slowed in May

The Chicago Fed National Activity Index fell to –0.15 in May from +0.42 in April.


Production-related indicators contributed –0.29 to the index in May, down from +0.33 in April. Manufacturing industrial production decreased 0.7 percent in May after increasing 0.6 percent in April.

In contrast, the sales, orders, and inventories category made a contribution of +0.05 in May, up from a neutral contribution in April.
