Kimball Midwest to open Savannah warehouse

Columbus, Ohio-based Kimball Midwest has purchased a warehouse in Savannah, Ga., to serve as its Southeast distribution center.

Expected to open in late 2014, the 142,000-square-foot distribution center will result in next-day order fulfillment for 95% of customers served from the location, the company said in a press release.

“We’re excited! This is a way to service our customers better by providing a regional presence to the Southeast, just like our Dallas and Reno DCs have done,” said Steve Good, Kimball Midwest director of operations.

The company will dedicate more than 5,500 square feet of the facility to office and training space. The location is expected to create several jobs in Savannah, including office and warehouse positions.

Before the facility opens, existing lighting will be replaced with LED lighting to lower utility costs and current HVAC mechanicals will be replaced by more energy efficient equipment.

“We look forward to introducing our value-added services to new customers in the Southeast,” said Matt Ries, Kimball Midwest director of marketing.
