McCausland to receive $962 million on sale of Airgas

Airgas founder and executive chairman Peter McCausland is set to receive about $962 million when the sale of Airgas to Air Liquide is finalized.


Peter McCauslandAccording to an analysis by Bloomberg, the 65-year-old chairman of the company he founded in 1982 and grew through more than 400 acquisitions, held 6.7 million shares of Airgas as of March 31, making him the largest shareholder.

France’s Air Liquide SA said Tuesday it agreed to acquire Airgas for $143 a share.

In 2011, McCausland successfully fought off a hostile $5.9 billion takeover bid from Air Products, which at the time valued his stake in Airgas at $506 million.
