Manufactured goods orders up in October

New orders for manufactured goods increased 1.5 percent in October to $473.9 billion, following two consecutive monthly decreases.


The U.S. Census Bureau reported that shipments, down six of the last seven months, decreased $2.5 billion or 0.5 percent to $475.2 billion. This followed a 0.3 percent September decrease.

New orders for manufactured durable goods increased 2.9 percent to $238.8 billion for the month. This followed a 0.8 percent September decrease.Transportation equipment led the increase, with a 7.9 percent gain to $82.0 billion. 

Nondurable goods orders increased less than $0.1 billion or virtually unchanged to $235.1 billion.
