Ned Monroe, National Association of Manufacturers

Ned MonroeWe are getting ready for Manufacturing Day! Today we speak with Ned Monroe, Senior Vice President of External Relations for the National Association of Manufacturers, who provides some additional insights along with highlights about this year’s upcoming Manufacturing Day.

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is the largest manufacturing association in the United States, representing small and large manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states. Manufacturing Day takes place on October 4, and addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. By working together during and after MFG DAY, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

  • Why do you need to pay attention to the stories told on Manufacturing Day 2013?
  • There are an estimated 600,000 vacant manufacturing jobs because employers cannot find adequately skilled candidates to fill them.
  • Manufacturing has created 500,000 jobs in the past three years, and it critical to the American economy.
  • We need to educate current students and the local communities about the importance of their local manufacturers – and the true impact they have on the local economy.
