Manufacturing and construction show small job gains in May

Factory employment increased by 3,000 in May, following a 5,000 jobs gain in April.


Construction employment grew by 4,000 in May, compared to a gain of 30,000 in April. The construction industry has added 215,000 jobs over the past 12 months.

Total nonfarm payroll employment edged up by 75,000 in May, and the unemployment rate remained at 3.6 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
