Gas Density Monitor for enhanced power grid safety

Trafag AG., a manufacturer of high-accuracy measurement devices, announces the launch of its 8719 Gas Density Monitor, designed to revolutionize gas insulated switchgear monitoring in the utilities, renewable energy, and manufacturing industries.

Trafag 8719 Gas Density MonitorThe 8719 Gas Density Monitor sets a new standard in insulating gas monitoring with its large 75mm dial, providing easier needle position readability for precisely estimating exact levels. This innovative device features up to five galvanically separated circuits, allowing for independent monitoring of multiple density levels and enhanced alarm capabilities. Increasing the amount of circuits provokes a greater understanding of the true density level, thus uniquely positioning this monitor in the market.

The 8719 Gas Density Monitor offers exact switching output while boasting temperature immunity, ensuring reliable alarm triggering regardless of ambient conditions. The device is fully temperature compensated by design, maintaining accuracy across a wide range from -40°C to +80°C. With versatile installation options of IP65/IP67 protection, it is suitable for both outdoor and indoor applications. Optional rain covers and thermal protection coverings are also offered.

The absolute pressure reference gas measuring system allows for direct monitoring of insulating gas density, providing the highest reliability and eliminating thermal expansion effects on measurement with 1:1 compensation over full temperature range. Furthermore, its maintenance-free design guarantees a low total cost of ownership over its industry-leading product lifespan.

The 8719 Gas Density Monitor is compliant with SF6 and alternative gases, providing flexibility for different insulating gas applications. Its customizable dial scales and units allow for adaptation to specific customer requirements.

Trafag's commitment to durability is evident in the 8719's shock resistance up to 70g, ensuring reliability in harsh environments. In extreme cold climates, Trafag's arctic temperature capability option uniquely extends the operating range down to -60°C. This is made possible by
incorporating special additives to prevent SF6 gas from condensing into a liquid at temperatures below -40°C—a critical issue for GIS functionality.

The device's gas density reference chamber principle offers the most reliable solution by directly monitoring insulating gas density, providing a superior method of converting pressure measurement into density.
