Dematic hosts high schooler robotics team
Dematic hosted a demonstration and luncheon last month for a high school student-led robotics team. Dematic, a supply chain automation and solutions provider, held the event for the G3 Robotics Team at its global headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 10 in support of "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology" (FIRST), a robotics education nonprofit.

The G3 Robotics Team from Midtown High School in Atlanta has grown to more than 50 students, 10 mentors, and 16 sponsors since its founding in 2004.
Dematic says it has a long history of giving back to the communities where its employees live, work, and serve. The Community Outreach Program is built on three core pillars: building a stronger community, education and workforce, and environment and sustainability. To demonstrate its commitment to furthering STEM education, Dematic has partnered with FIRST since 2008 to provide mentorship and guidance to middle and high school robotics teams across North America. Over the years of this partnership, Dematic has contributed hundreds of volunteer hours and more than $300,000 in grants and scholarships to local teams and students pursuing STEM education.
G3 Robotics has been a recipient of Dematic's sponsorship since the company established its global headquarters in Atlanta in 2019. This sponsorship includes financial support as well as the mentorship of Dematic engineer Christian Rodriguez.
At the demonstration and luncheon in December, the G3 Robotics Team showcased its 2023 competition robot, Dancing Queen. Dematic employees and executives, as well as members of the Atlanta City County and Metro Atlanta Chamber, attended to celebrate the achievements of G3 Robotics and support Dematic’s commitment to the Atlanta community.
Following the presentation, the G3 Robotics Team had the opportunity to engage with Dematic engineers and executive leadership to learn more about a career in STEM from industry professionals. Dematic President Mike Larsson spoke at the event to highlight the vital role of education in cultivating the innovation leaders of the future.
STEM Scholarship Announced
In other news, Dematic announced the recipients of its 2024 Dematic STEM Scholarship Program, presented in partnership with Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). In its second year, this program highlights Dematic’s commitment to cultivating science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) innovators and its strong ties to the Grand Rapids community.
“Investing in STEM education is essential to shaping the future of our industry and supporting innovation,” said Larsson. “Grand Rapids has been our home for decades, and we’re proud to give back to the community that has been integral to our success. Supporting these students as they pursue their education at GRCC and is an honor and a privilege.”
Dematic invited GRCC students to apply by writing a short essay answering the question, “How does supply chain technology positively impact society?” The selection committee reviewed the applications, and each recipient was awarded $2,000 to support their studies.

“The reliance on innovative technologies is crucial to enhance operational efficiency, improve decision-making, and respond to consumer demands more effectively,” wrote Le in her essay. “These technologies improve business operations and contribute to a positive social impact, such as reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices.”
Dematic introduced its STEM Scholarship Program last year by awarding $1,000 each to five Grand Valley State University (GVSU) students. The scholarship celebrated the 10th anniversary of GVSU’s Mary Idema Pew Library and its Dematic Automated Storage Retrieval System (AS/RS) installation.
