United Stationers sales up slightly
United Stationers Inc. reported fourth-quarter net sales increased 1.3% from the prior-year period to $1.2 billion.
Industrial supplies sales grew 23.4% and the janitorial and breakroom category expanded 10.8%.
Net income for the quarter was $27.9 million, or 65 cents per diluted share, compared to $31.1 million, or 65 cents per share, for the year prior.
Net sales for the year increased 3.6% to $5.0 billion, compared with $4.8 billion in 2010. Net income was $109.0 million for 2011 versus $112.8 million the year prior.
"We are taking action to accelerate our growth efforts in the industrial and janitorial & breakroom businesses, optimize our distribution network for the future, and drive targeted cost reductions to support margins,” said Cody Phipps, president and chief executive officer.
