EMUGE-FRANKEN USA hosts Manufacturing Day event
EMUGE FRANKEN USA, a manufacturer of high-performance end mills, taps, thread mills, drills and other rotary tools, welcomed students, educators, regional workforce, economic development, community, congressional, and senatorial leaders to its West Boylston headquarters on Friday, Oct. 2, in recognition of Manufacturing Day.
The “Explore the Future of Manufacturing” event provided students with a hands-on introduction to career opportunities in machining, CNC programming, engineering, manufacturing and related fields.
The four-hour event provided attendees with an inside look at EMUGE-FRANKEN USA’s manufacturing facility and the diverse career paths available to students in the industry. Students heard directly from engineers, machinists, programmers and other leaders about how they launched their careers, the skills they use every day and opportunities for professional growth.
“Manufacturing offers tremendous opportunities for young people who enjoy working with technology, solving problems and seeing the results of their work,” said Bob Hellinger, president of EMUGE-FRANKEN USA. “We wanted students to see firsthand what modern manufacturing looks like and more importantly, meet the people who are already in rewarding careers in our industry. I’d like to thank all the leaders who came out in support of this event to help inspire the next generation of manufacturing professionals.”
The event began with a welcome and introduction from Hellinger, who discussed EMUGE-FRANKEN USA’s role in supporting manufacturing around the world and its critical impact on key industries including aerospace, medical, automotive, defense and energy.
Students then experienced a live CNC machining demonstration that showed how CNC technology and programming transforms raw material into finished components. The demonstration provided a real-world look at the connection between digital programming and physical manufacturing.
Each participating school received a commemorative keepsake featuring its school logo.
Students and community leaders also toured the EMUGE-FRANKEN USA facility and learned about the design and manufacturing of its precision cutting tools. The tour provided an inside look at the technology, precision and expertise required to manufacture cutting tools used to produce components for some of the world’s most advanced products.
Attendees also experienced a special technology showcase featuring the unveiling of a 54-inch precision-machined Freedom Tower created in collaboration with leading manufacturing technology partners to commemorate a significant moment in American history.
The event concluded with a career panel, “Paths Into Manufacturing,” featuring professionals from manufacturing, machining, engineering, CAM software, technical applications and shop-floor operations. Panelists shared their personal career journeys and answered questions from students.
The discussion explored how the panelists got started in manufacturing, the skills employers seek and opportunities for career advancement. It also highlighted the range of career paths available beyond traditional perceptions of manufacturing, including opportunities in advanced technology, computer programming, engineering, technical applications and management roles.
EMUGE-FRANKEN USA managers were joined by local, state and federal officials, along with workforce and economic development leaders, including Matt Berard, Associate Director of Workforce Development at MassMEP; Laura Arnold, Workforce Development Pipeline Specialist at MassMEP; U.S. Representative Jim McGovern (D-Massachusetts), representing Massachusetts’ 2nd Congressional District; Kayanna James, District Director for State Senator Robyn Kennedy; Ken Bergeron, District Director for State Representative James O’Day; Kevin Kuros, Central Region Director at the Massachusetts Office of Business Development; Darnell Dunn, Director of Business Recruitment at the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce; Marc Frieden, Economic Development and Planning for the Town of West Boylston; and Michael Ward, Town Administrator for the Town of West Boylston, where EMUGE-FRANKEN USA’s facility is located.
