LA-CO Industries names new president

LA-CO Industries has appointed Steven R. Smith as president and chief executive officer, succeeding John Hardin, who served as president and CEO for 17 years.


Smith will oversee all manufacturing and commercial operations for LA-CO Industries’ North American and international business units. 

Smith joins LA-CO Industries from JBT Corporation, a food processing machinery and airport equipment company, where he served as president for four years. Throughout his career, Smith has specialized in global business management, acquisition integrations, strategy development and deployment and organizational restructuring across a wide range of different industries, including mergers & acquisitions, manufacturing and engineering.

“Steven’s extensive experience in the leadership and growth of many diversified businesses, paired with his passion for innovation and new product development, will help us meet our goals of producing new and innovative marking and indicating products for our customers,” said Dan Kleiman, executive chairman of the board of LA-CO Industries. “We are excited to welcome Steven and have him lead us into a new era of growth in current and new markets.”

Smith earned his MBA in Finance from The Wharton School and his B.S. degree in Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, LA-CO Industries manufactures a diversified portfolio of industrial brands including Markal marking products for industry, Tempil industrial temperature indicators, LA-CO plumbing and chemical products and All-Weather livestock marking products.
