Thompson wins ISA's John J. Buckley Lifetime Achievement Award
The Industrial Supply Association announced Tommy Thompson has been named the recipient of the 2025 John J. Buckley Lifetime Achievement Award. He is executive vice president at Turner Supply Company.
Thompson's journey, which began in inside sales straight out of college, has been defined by his passion for service, strategic vision, and ability to lead through transformation. From his early days as a product specialist focusing on electrical supplies, he quickly rose through the ranks, proving himself a valuable asset to Turner Supply. As he took on the responsibility of managing the company’s largest customer account, his leadership and problem-solving skills became even more evident.
As executive vice president, Thompson has played a pivotal role in Turner Supply’s growth, guiding the company through eight mergers and acquisitions that expanded its reach and capabilities. Thompson's innovative thinking helped launch some of Turner’s most successful integrated supply programs, setting new benchmarks for the industry. He also provided executive leadership for the company’s specialty departments, including Reliability and Conveyor Systems.
“Receiving this award is a true honor,” said Thompson. “I’ve spent my career working alongside incredible people who have inspired and challenged me every step of the way. This industry has given me so much, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to contribute and grow with Turner Supply and ISA. Being recognized with an award named after John Buckley, a man I deeply respected, makes this moment even more meaningful.” I would like to thank my co-workers at Turner that propped me up along the way and “did the work”, Spud and Chip Schramm for their willingness to let me lead the company with them, and especially my wife, Dixie, for her support and encouragement along the way.
Beyond his contributions to Turner Supply, Thompson's influence extends into the broader industrial supply channel. As chair of the ISA Board in 2014-2015, he helped navigate the association through a critical transition, including leading the executive search team following the passing of John Buckley. His leadership at ISA strengthened industry connections and ensured continuity in times of change.
“Tommy Thompson embodies everything the John J. Buckley Lifetime Achievement Award represents,” said ISA CEO, Brendan Breen. “His impact on Turner Supply, ISA, and the broader industrial supply community is nothing short of extraordinary. He has not only driven innovation and business success but has also been a mentor and champion for so many in our industry. His leadership, particularly in steering Turner Supply through multiple acquisitions and leading integrated supply programs, has set a standard for excellence. We are thrilled to recognize his legacy and contributions with this well-deserved honor.”
Thompson has also played a crucial role in shaping Turner Supply’s future. Serving on the company’s board of directors for most of his 46-year career, he has been instrumental in crafting a long-term succession plan to ensure stability and continued success. Now transitioning into a part-time role in 2025 as he prepares for retirement, he leaves behind a strong foundation that will allow the company to thrive for years to come.
ISA formally presented Thompson with the John J. Buckley Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual event, ISA25.
