Manufactured goods orders declined in April

New orders for manufactured goods decreased 0.6 percent in April to $485.2 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today.


The decline followed 11 consecutive monthly increases.

Shipments increased by 0.4 percent to $487.8 billion.

New orders for manufactured durable goods decreased 1.3 percent to $246.3 billion, unchanged from the previously published decrease. Transportation equipment drove the decrease, declining 6.6 percent to $68.9 billion. New orders for manufactured nondurable goods increased 0.1 percent to $238.9 billion.
