Manufactured goods orders increased in October

New orders for manufactured goods increased $1.4 billion or 0.3 percent to $497.0 billion in October, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.


The increase followed two consecutive monthly decreases.

Durable goods orders increased $1.3 billion or 0.5 percent to $248.4 billion, down from the previously published 0.6 percent increase. Transportation equipment led the increase, $0.6 billion or 0.7 percent to $84.6 billion. New orders for manufactured nondurable goods increased $0.1 billion or virtually unchanged to $248.6 billion.

Shipments were virtually unchanged at $500.2 billion. This followed a 0.4 percent September decrease.
