Manufacturing after-tax profits sink 10% in third quarter
U.S. manufacturing corporations' seasonally adjusted after-tax profits in the third quarter of 2024 totaled $187.5 billion, down $18.9 (±0.8) billion from the after-tax profits of $206.4 billion recorded in the second quarter of 2024, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's Quarterly Financial Report on Manufacturing, Mining, Wholesale Trade, and Selected Service Industries.
This was also down $38.8 (±1.5) billion from the after-tax profits of $226.3 billion recorded in the third quarter of 2023.
Seasonally adjusted sales for the quarter totaled $1,900.1 billion, down $14.2 (±8.9) billion from the $1,914.3 billion recorded in the second quarter of 2024, and down $93.6 (±40.5) billion from the $1,993.6 billion recorded in the third quarter of 2023.
