Heule introduces SNAP 18 module to drill and chamfer in a single pass

Heule Precision Tools presents the SNAP 18 Module that integrates into standard drills to allow users to drill and chamfer on both bore edges without turning the workpiece or changing tools.

Heule Introduces SNAP 18 Module to Drill and ChamferBuilt on proven SNAP technology, this reduces the number of process steps and therefore time and cost. The SNAP 18 module is designed for drill bodies with a bore diameter of 18.0 mm.

Positioned approximately 25.0 mm behind the drill insert, it has a chamfering capacity of 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm. This unique technology combines Swiss precision with long-lasting carbide blades to deliver reliable performance and reduced labor costs across a wide range of industries and applications.

Single-pass drilling and front and back chamfering delivers unparalleled efficiency, with reduced cycle times, tool changes, and downtime. Patented blade geometry ensures burr-free, repeatable chamfers throughout high-volume production runs. Coated carbide blades deliver long life and consistent results even in challenging materials including steel, titanium, Inconel, and aluminum. Quick blade change design simplifies maintenance and minimizes time between runs. Developed for demanding industrial applications, this compact tool has few wear parts and delivers clean, reliable, and repeatable results for a wide range of industries and applications including automotive components and transmission parts, aerospace housings and precision bores, hydraulic and pneumatic manifolds, energy and heavy equipment castings, medical and small part manufacturing, and more.

Installation is easily accomplished. Simply machine a pocket for mounting the SNAP 18 Module in the drill body as close to the drill insert as possible. Customers can use their tried-and-tested drill technology without having to change drill suppliers.

The guiding section of the blade causes the blade to retract into the tool body once the maximum chamfer size has been achieved. As a result, parts with fluctuating tolerances of surface/edge positions (castings, for example) are machined with consistent chafer results every time. The spherically ground sliding section of the blade enables the tool to pass through the workpiece without damaging the surface of the bore.

Simple, Reliable Operation

The direction of rotation does not need to be changed, and the spindle does not need to be stopped at any point during the machining process. The drill tool is positioned in front of the workpiece in rapid feed.

Drill the bore (according to the manufacturer’s cutting data) until the module blade is just above the supper edge of the bore. Drilling and chamfering can be done simultaneously.

Carry out chamfering (according to the HEULE cutting data) until the blade is fully retracted (chamfer depth +1mm).

Complete the drilling process and move to the starting position for machining the back edge (burr height +1mm).

Carry out chamfering until the blade is fully retracted (chamfer depth + 1mm). To avoid blade breakage, the edge of the bore must always (even after the machine stoops) be traversed through at working speed and working feed.

Move out of the workpiece in rapid feed and move to the next bore.
