New durable goods orders drop in November
New orders for manufactured durable goods in November, down following three consecutive monthly increases, decreased $5.8 billion or 2.1% to $270.6 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced December 23. This followed a 0.7 percent October increase.

Graybar acquires CX Connexion
Graybar, a distributor of electrical, communications and data networking products and provider of related supply chain management and logistics services, has completed the acquisition of CX Connexion, based in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.

3M to exit PFAS manufacturing by end of 2025
On December 20, 3M announced it will exit per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) manufacturing and work to discontinue the use of PFAS across its product portfolio by the end of 2025.

Enerpac Tool Group reports 13% YOY sales increase for fiscal Q1'23
Enerpac Tool Group Corp. has announced its net sales were $139 million, with a 13% year-over-year increase in core sales driven by continued solid broad-based demand; the strengthening of the U.S. dollar reduced sales by 6% year over year.

Optimas completes global IATF Certification
Optimas Solutions, a global industrial manufacturer/distributor and service provider, announced it has completed IATF Certification for its worldwide operations. Adding its center of excellence in Pune, India, and new distribution sites in Mexicali, Mexico, and Lockbourne, Ohio, places Optimas at a level of quality assurance uncommon in the fastener industry, the company stated in a press release.

Houchens Industries to acquire Air Hydro Power 
Houchens Industries, a large and wholly-owned S Corp ESOP based in Bowling Green, Kentucky, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Air Hydro Power (AHP) The deal is expected to close in January 2023.

Dec. 19 NAM Economic Report: Supply bottlenecks improving
This week’s Monday Economic Report from Chad Moutray at the National Association of Manufacturers highlighted the S&P Global Flash U.S. Manufacturing PMI fell from 47.7 in November to 46.2 in December, the sharpest decline since May 2020, with steep decreases in new orders, output and exports.

Grainger names chief legal officer
Grainger has appointed Nancy L. Berardinelli-Krantz as senior vice president and chief legal officer, effective January 30, 2023. She will succeed John L. Howard who will retire from the company in July 2023 after 23 years of service.

IWDC announces charity contribution
Coming out of its November owners’ meeting, IWDC says it has broken its all-time annual member’s spend record set in 2021. In addition, the cooperative announced it raised $11,000 at the meeting for ReIGNITE Hope, bringing its 2022 total donation to $38,280 in combined cash and product donations. ReIGNITE Hope trains students for a career in welding, gets them certified in the welding trade and assists them with job placement.

Producer prices easing, rising costs in some categories
According to the National Association of Manufacturers' Economic Reports, producer prices for final demand goods and services rose 0.3% for the third straight month in November.

Dakota Supply Group opens new Minnesota facility

BlackHawk Industrial, Tulsa, Oklahoma, has again executed on its growth strategy with the completion of its acquisition of Wisconsin-based Thomas Industrial Supply, Inc. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Fastenal reported its November sales totaled $577,826 million, a 10.2% increase from $524,168 million in November of last year.

Construction adds over 20K jobs in November
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today that construction employment continued to trend up in November (+20,000), with nonresidential building adding 8,000 jobs. Construction has added an average of 19,000 jobs per month so far this year, little different from the 2021 average of 16,000 per month.

Construction spending up year-over-year
Construction spending slowed somewhat in October compared to September but remains well above the pace set in 2021.
